Building Inclusive Leaders: Nomatu Consulting Facilitates UWC’s DEIB Program

Nomatu Consulting recently had the privilege of facilitating the University of the Western Cape’s DEIB (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging) Programme — a powerful initiative designed to deepen understanding, strengthen leadership capacity, and build a more inclusive institutional culture.

The programme brought together staff and emerging leaders from across the university to explore the real, everyday practices that make inclusion meaningful: courageous conversations, equitable decision-making, understanding lived experiences, and creating environments where people feel they truly belong.

At Nomatu Consulting, our approach is rooted in partnership. Rather than “delivering a workshop,” we create space for dialogue, reflection, and practical application. The UWC sessions focused on:

  • Strengthening awareness of bias, identity, and power dynamics

  • Equipping leaders with tools for inclusive communication and engagement

  • Mapping institutional realities that affect equity and belonging

  • Building confidence to champion DEIB principles within teams and departments

The result was an energising and honest learning environment — one where participants connected deeply with the content and with one another.

We are grateful to UWC for trusting Nomatu Consulting to support this important work. Their commitment to inclusivity is not a box-ticking exercise; it reflects a genuine desire to shape a university community where every voice is valued and every person feels seen.  DEIB is not a once-off session — it’s a journey. And Nomatu Consulting is honoured to walk alongside institutions like UWC as they take intentional steps toward transformation.
